Key locations in the university
How to get here?
Welcome to Dortmund! To make your journey to the university as smooth as possible, we’ve put together a quick guide on how to get here from the main train station (Dortmund Hbf).
The fastest and most common way to reach the main university campus is by train.
1. By S-Bahn (Train) – The Best Way
This is the quickest and easiest option for reaching the main campuses of TU Dortmund and FH Dortmund, as both are located directly at the S-Bahn station.
- Departure Point: Dortmund Hauptbahnhof (Main Station).
- Line: Take the S1 S-Bahn line.
- Direction: Make sure you are on the train heading in the direction of Düsseldorf / Solingen.
- Your Stop: Get off at the “Dortmund Universität” station.
The journey is very short, typically taking only about 6 minutes. Once you exit the train, you are already on campus!
2. By Bus
While the S-Bahn is the preferred method, the bus is a good alternative.
- Departure Point: Dortmund Hbf Bus Terminal (Busbahnhof).
- Bus Lines: Look for bus lines that serve the university, such as 445, 447, or 462.
- Journey Time: The ride can take a bit longer, usually around 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic.
Important Information & Pro-Tips
- Tickets: You will need a valid ticket for your journey. A single-ride ticket (EinzelTicket) for the VRR public transport network is sufficient.
- Student Ticket: As a student, your semester ticket in the app will function as your public transport pass and will cover this trip.
- Campus Navigation: The H-Bahn, a unique monorail system, connects the different parts of the university campus. You can use it to travel between the North and South campuses once you arrive.
